Alcohol and Drug Rehab Day Treatment
Our partial hospitalization (day treatment) program combines the same individualized services as our Intensive Outpatient Program with an intensity of 18+ treatment hours each week at both our St Louis rehab and Kansas City Rehab programs. The 18+ hours each week are comprised of sessions with our medical doctor, individual therapists, family therapists, group therapists, health and wellness staff, and other psycho-educational service staff. While most programs offer this level of care, it often consists of large groups and limited scheduling. Our partial hospitalization (day treatment) program is provided M-F 9a-8p* and Saturday 9a-2p* to ensure that those in need of quality treatment can still meet life’s many obligations. As part of this program, some individuals are assisted in finding sober living and housing to support their ongoing recovery.
Programming for Day Treatment
Partial hospitalization or day treatment is a non-residential treatment program offered at both our St. Louis rehab and Kansas City rehab. The program provides clinical diagnostic and treatment services on a level of intensity equal to an inpatient program, but on less than a 24-hour basis. The program is at least 18 hours per week. Emergency services are available at least telephonically when the program is not in session. These services include therapeutic, nursing, psychiatric/medical evaluation, and medication management (including detoxification as appropriate), group and individual/family therapy, psychological testing, vocational counseling, rehabilitation recovery counseling, substance abuse evaluation and counseling, and behavioral plans for at least 6 hours per scheduled day. The individual is evaluated by a medical doctor by the end of the week of entering the program and monitored no less than once per week thereafter. Ongoing consultation for medical and mental health issues is available within 8 hours by phone and no more than 48 hours face to face.
Environment of Care
The environment at the partial hospitalization (day treatment) level of treatment is highly structured, and there is a staff-to-patient ratio sufficient to ensure necessary therapeutic services, professional monitoring, control, and protection. Substance use partial hospital treatment may be appropriate when a patient does not require the more restrictive and intensive environment of a 24-hour inpatient setting but does need up to eight hours of clinical services. Partial hospitalization is used as a time-limited response to stabilize acute symptoms. As such, it can be used both as a transitional level of care (i.e., step-down from inpatient or residential) as well as a stand-alone level of care to stabilize a deteriorating condition and avert hospitalization. Linkages and referral relationships with outpatient services and supportive housing are expected for care transition. Treatment efforts are focused on the individual’s response during treatment program hours, as well as the continuity and transfer of treatment gains during the individual’s non-program hours in their home/community. A goal is to enable successful transition back to appropriate social, family, vocational or educational roles. Family involvement from the beginning of treatment is important unless contraindicated. The frequency of interventions and treatment modalities occur based on individual needs. MIA provides this program in a way that is confidential, private, safe, comfortable, and facilitates the recovery, wellbeing, and self-efficacy of the persons served.
