Video Game (addiction) Issues & Technology (addiction) Issues

Technology plays an essential role in most of our lives today. It allows us to be productive, efficient, and quickly access numerous functions. It can pull us out of our day to day lives and into fantasy worlds where individuals may find solace from life’s difficulties. Our electronic devices can seem to be an unavoidable and constant distraction that pull on our thoughts throughout our entire day. It can be argued that some technology has become an essential part of our lives. As with other essential functions such as; food, sex, sleep, and other various lifestyle aspects, technology can bring joy and entertainment. The problem for some is that any of these can get to the point where the negative effects of excess overshadow their benefits. Other non-essential habits such as video game usage, gambling, and other recreational activities can also have negative effects on an individual’s life if used to excess. The topics of video game addiction, technology addiction, and other process addictions are getting more attention than in the past. While not all these issues have been classified as addictions or even disorders, they still pose significant problems for some individuals. Rather than call them video game addiction or technology addiction, we simply refer to them as video game issues and technology issues; however, you will find we use the term addiction on our site merely to help those seeking treatment find our resources. The way an individual manages to address these issues is almost identical to the treatment of process addictions with very specific differentiation.
